The Success of All Employees at Galenika

Rikardo Vian Markes, CEO of GALENIKA, for Business Club Magazine RADAR
Europe is the cradle of the pharmaceutical industry. With 79 years of expertise, Galenika is one of the oldest companies still operating from the former Yugoslavia, one of the oldest in Europe, but also a company that is always focused on the future. In a conversation with the CEO of Galenika, Rikardo Vian Markes, we discussed global pharmaceutical trends and the importance of people and teams for business success.
How do global economic instability, crises, and conflicts affect the pharmaceutical industry?
There is widespread concern across all industries worldwide, as turbulence affects economies and communities. The pharmaceutical industry, on the other hand, is on the opposite side of the equation because it provides solutions that help people live better. New medicines and medical innovations, along with high-quality and effective pharmaceutical products, prolong and save lives. There is a strong desire to make greater strides in research, and governments are discussing building biotech systems in their countries. Europe wants to attract investments in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
As for our company, Galenika is consistently focused on the current and future health needs of patients and consumers.
How do you see nearly eight decades of Galenika’s tradition?
This year we marked 79 years, and that is the success of the entire team. Galenika is now a company of diversity and opportunities: a balance of tradition and expertise, with a focus on the future. There are many drug manufacturers, so people often don’t know their names, even when using some of their products. With us, it’s different. Our patients and consumers know the brand and understand that Galenika is a guarantee of top-quality products.
All the employees who work at Galenika today, as well as those who have worked here in the past, have contributed to its growth and significance. Times change, but our people are, and will continue to be, our strength.
Is the pharmaceutical industry embracing artificial intelligence, and what are the trends?
The impact of digitalization and artificial intelligence is significant, and it will be enormous. AI is already being used in several areas within the pharmaceutical industry. For example, from research and development in every stage of molecular and drug design, identifying patients suitable for clinical trials, using big data to uncover unknown trends, linking genes to diseases, to optimizing manufacturing processes, document management, overall efficiency, and productivity.
What is your message to students on why they should choose the pharmaceutical industry or Galenika?
My message to young people finishing Pharmaceutical or other related studies is that this industry is exceptional and dynamic, and it will drive and develop you. It continuously changes people’s lives for the better through research and development, education, a growth mindset, technology, and networking. Day by day, we create small miracles that fit in the palm of our hand, helping people recover, feel better, and live better and better. Being part of this ongoing miracle is the true calling.
