Obesity: unraveling the complexity and embracing a modern approach to treatment

At the regional Pro-femina Conference, held on April 21 at the Madlenianum Opera and Theatre, Galenika brought attention to an important topic—obesity as a chronic disease that requires a new, modern approach to treatment.
Organized by Lepota i zdravlje magazine under the theme “Aware. Bold. Yourself.”, the conference brought together experts from various fields to encourage open and meaningful discussions about women’s health and quality of life.
Within this framework, the expert panel “Obesity: Unraveling the Complexity”, supported by Galenika, focused on understanding the causes of obesity and exploring modern approaches to its treatment.
Obesity is no longer a matter of personal discipline
The panel emphasized that obesity can no longer be viewed solely as a consequence of lifestyle choices or a lack of discipline. Today, it is recognized as a complex, chronic disease resulting from the interaction of hormonal, metabolic, and behavioral factors.
This understanding shifts the focus from simplified solutions toward a systematic, long-term approach to disease management, while also promoting greater understanding and reducing the stigma often experienced by people living with obesity.
An integrated approach to obesity treatment
The experts highlighted that a modern approach to obesity treatment requires an integrated strategy that includes:
- a balanced and sustainable diet
- regular physical activity
- continuous medical supervision
- an individualized treatment approach
The objective of this approach is not only weight loss but also the long-term improvement of overall health and quality of life.
The role of innovation and GLP-1 therapy
Particular attention was given to innovations in obesity treatment. The panel highlighted the important role of GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy, which helps regulate appetite and metabolic processes, enabling a more effective and sustainable approach to obesity management.
These modern therapeutic options represent a significant advancement in obesity treatment, providing patients with long-term support in managing the disease while improving clinical outcomes.
